Stanford Basmati Raas
Stanford Basmati Raas is a coed Indian dance team that engages in traditional Indian dance called Garba/Raas. The team competes nationally from Texas, California, Miami, Indiana, Las Vegas, New Jersey, and other states across the country! Even though dancing is a large part of being on the the team, the captains have put a large focus on recruiting individuals that have decent dancing capabilities but, more importantly, will be a good fit for the team. After the team learns the dance, we have to send in audition videos to competitions to give them a teaser on what to expect from us, hoping they'll invite us to come compete! The season breaks down as follows:
1) Fall Quarter - Learning the Dance/Applying to competitions across the country
2) Winter Quarter - Perfecting the dance and competing because it's competition season!
3) Spring Quarter - Nationals (if we qualify!), shows on campus, and winding down

Stanford Raagapella
Stanford Raagapella is an all-male South East Asian Fusion a cappella group that is one of its kind. The group competes throughout the year, has many performances on campus, and occasionally has opportunities that are extraordinary. Joining the group was an interesting experience for me because I can not read sheet music. Turns out half of our group can't! I find that absolutely amazing, that so many people can come together, some of whom have a formal music knowledge and others who do not and be able to sing as a group in such unison.
